New York Times Uses President Buhari's Picture For A Ghanaian News

It's no new thing that foreign newspapers do make blunders about reporting news in Africa most especially Nigeria and mistaking a nearby country with it.

There was a time when CNN made this blunder during the ebola outbreak period with Nigeria and Niger.

This time around, it's New York Times turn to make this silly mistake using president Buhari's family picture for a Ghanaian news report about "Britain accusing some lawmakers from Ghana of falsifying visa documents for family members".

Trust Nigerians, they blasted the hell out of NY times on Twitter.

Toyo Baby Was Removed From ‘Jenifa’s Diary’ Because Of N3000 By Funke Akindele

It was confirmed that Funke Akindele and Juliana Olayode, who plays Toyo Baby on Jenifa’s Diary, have parted ways.

According to our sources, Funke Akindele removed Toyo Baby from the series over what the latter termed ‘bad pay’.

The source revealed that Toyo Baby was cut off from the widely watched TV series for requesting an increment in pay which didn’t go well with Funke Akindele who feels she’s an ingrate being that Olayode rose to stardom through her appearance on the widely-watched show.

Sources close to SceneOneProductions, producers of Jenifa’s Diary, further revealed that the producer of the show, Funke Akinkele via her production manager and younger sister – Abimbola – pays actors between N3,000 and N150,000 (per episode/season of the show) depending on the role.

An actress who spoke under the condition of anonymity via text message narrated how she was paid what she termed ‘peanuts’ by Akindele’s team after being part of an all-night party scene on Jenifa’s Diary.

I got a text message from Sceneone Productions that I had been selected to act on Jenifa’s Diary and I will be part of a party scene. I was so excited that I told my entire family about it. Mind you, it wasn’t my 1st time acting but d feeling of being on Jenifa’s diary was a big deal for me. I was asked to come with 5 different party costumes. Location was Amen Estate, Eleko. After filming with over 30 girls the whole night, Funke came to address us and advice that money shouldn’t be our priorities at this stage; that was when it occurred to me that something awkward was about to happen….just then, the Production Manager, Mr Osmond whispered something to Funke’s sister, Abimbola & she started paying us each 3K. Can u imagine?, 3K for all night shoot!…on Jenifa’S dIARY!… I was so mad, some of us had to turn down the money shaa….couldn’t face my mom to explain to her wat happened the next morning.

According to our findings, actors Lota Chukwu, Omotunde Lolo 1, Falz D Bahd Guy (who has also left the show) and Olayode are the highest paid actors who take home 150k per season. The rest take home much lesser money.

Stars like Tiwa Savage, Toke Makinwa and others who have had cameo appearances on the show reportedly got between 100k and 300k for ‘showing face’.

You will also note that Juliana was absent at events and parties that held at Funke’s house in Lekki.

Funke and Juliana have also unfollowed each other on their social media accounts.

"Buhari Is Working From Home Only For Today" - Lai Mohammed Clarifies

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has released a statement clarifying his earlier statement on President Buhari working from home. According to Mohammed, President Buhari will be working from home only for today.

In the statement issued in Abuja, the Minister said the President only decided to work from home today, not that he has decided to work from home henceforth.

He said the headlines in a section of the media,

''Buhari to now work from home - Lai Mohammed,'' is a misrepresentation of his statement at the briefing. Quoting verbatim the relevant section of his briefing, Mohammed said: ''He (the President) wanted to rest TODAY and he asked the VP to preside over TODAY'S meeting. In addition, he also asked that all his files be taken home to him and he will be working from home TODAY.''

Kayode Ogundamisi Reacts To Ooni Of Ife And Oba Of Lagos Saga

Kayode Ogundamisi takes to twitter to post a picture that looks like a denigration of the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwane Akiolu. This is after a viral video shows the Oba of Lagos refusing to shake hands with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi. The picture refers to the Oba of Lagos as the Baale of Idumota, Lagos Island. The title ‘Baale’ in Yoruba land means a village head and is usually in submission to a King. View the picture and tweet below to determine for yourself what you think Kayode Ogundamisi is implying.

Ooni’s Palace Reacts To Snub By Oba Of Lagos

The palace of the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has reacted to the humiliating treatment meted out to him by the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, at a public function in Lagos on Tuesday.

A video of the incident which went virile on social media showed the Lagos monarch refusing to shake hands with the Ooni, who arrived the venue of the event while guests were already seated.

The Ooni, on entering the hall, went straight to greet traditional rulers, but Oba Akiolu shunned him and with a wave of the hand, gestured his rejection of the Ooni’s greetings.

The Ooni however, took the incident with calm and took his seat on the same roll where the traditional ruler was seated.

Speaking with PremiumTimes on the development, the Head of Palace Directorate of Tourism, Awoyemi Tunde, said the Ooni of Ife was not losing sleep over the issue.

“It is not a slap on the Ooni of Ife but rather a slap on the Oba of Lagos,” he said. “The stool of Oba of Lagos was founded by Olofin Ogunfunminire and the Ooni of Ife is the Oba of Yoruba land.

“The Oba of Lagos has to come to terms with the fact that Ooni is the royal father of Yoruba land, it is necessary that all persons come together to unite Yoruba land but really the issue at the event is very condemnable”.

Mr. Tunde also said that the Oba of Lagos risked the wrath of the ‘Alale'(Ancestors), as a result of his disrespect for the superior monarch.

“God gave Ooni of Ife Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, the mandate to unite the Yoruba land and nothing will stop him from doing that,” he added.

According to Mr. Tunde, reactions from different Yoruba communities would continue to pour in to denounce the action of the Lagos monarch.

“If we don’t receive an apology especially with the image of Ile-Ife, we will call on the ancestors on the issue,” he said.

CBN Pumps $186m As Forex Reserves Beat $30bn

Following Tuesday’s assurances by Godwin Emefiele, the CBN says it will continue to intervene in the foreign exchange market, as it injected $185.86 million into the retail Secondary Market Intervention Sales (SMIS).

Isaac Okorafor, the bank’s acting director in charge of corporate communications, while confirming the auction sale, disclosed that out of the auctioned amount, only $3.14million was sold as spots, while the sum of $182.72million was sold as forwards.

Okorafor further explained that the overall picture of the inter-bank forex market was that of optimism, going by the level of access now being enjoyed by different categories of customers in both the wholesale and retail segments of the market.

Emefiele, while assuring Nigerians of the imminent end of the current recession in 2017, at the end of his meeting with the leadership of the Senate on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, declared that the Bank will continue its relentless intervention in the forex market.

Emefiele hinged the optimism of the CBN on the accretion to the country’s foreign reserve, which he said currently hovered above the $31billion mark.

According to him, “our reserves stand at above $31bn and that provides us enough of firepower or ammunition to be able to defend the currency, and we will do so with all intensity to ensure that foreign exchange is procured by everybody”.

He further reiterated the Bank’s assurance to all shades of genuine customers that the CBN would provide them the needed foreign exchange to meet their legitimate needs, stressing that the new forex window opened by the apex bank last week aimed at encouraging foreign investors in the country’s forex market.

PDP Asks Presidency To Stop Hiding Buhari From Nigerians

The Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the presidency not to unnecessarily shield President Muhammadu Buhari from his country men on account of his poor health.

The opposition party which felt irked by the last Monday’s expulsion of the Punch Newspaper reporter in the State House by the president’s Chief Security Officer (CSO), Abubakar Bashir, described such move as dictatorial.

In a statement issued yesterday by the spokesman of the PDP caretaker committee, Dayo Adeyeye, the party said no one has the right to deny Nigerians access to President Buhari while dishing out orders on his behalf.

“For the upteenth time, we want to re-iterate that Nigerians deserve to know the health condition of their president. No one has the right or power to hide the president behind the curtain while dishing out instructions to Nigerians in the name of the president,” the party said.

However, the party said: “It wishes the president a speedy recovery and pray that the Lord Almighty will grant all that is required for him to fulfill his responsibilities to our dear country.”

On the expulsion of a journalist working with The Punch Newspaper, Lekan Adetayo, by Buhari’s CSO, the PDP said the action did not come to it as a surprise given that the nation is gradually tilting towards full blown dictatorship.

It said the media as the fourth estate of the realm is an important pillar of any democracy, adding that any attempt to gag the press in whatever guise is an abridgment of the rights of the people and a direct assault on our hard earned democracy.

‘Yesterday, April 24, 2017, we received the news of the expulsion of Olalekan Adetayo, the Punch Newspaper reporter and Chairman of Press Corps at the Presidential Villa, by Bashir, the CSO to President Buhari ,but it did not come to us, as a surprise given that the Nation is gradually tilting towards full blown dictatorship. Adetayo’s offence we heard, was his report by the weekend titled: ‘Fresh anxiety at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa over Buhari’s health.’”

According to the party, “The PDP acknowledges Mr. President’s health challenges; and as a human being and an elder statesman, we quite understand the need for him to have adequate rest and continuous medical attention. We are therefore not too surprised that the President has not in recent times been able to fully face the rigours of government and has to make very rare public appearances.

“This is pretty obvious to all Nigerians. The Punch story is therefore nothing extraordinary. It merely reflects what Nigerians already know with perhaps a little bit of speculative licence. It therefore should not have elicited the extreme reaction from the president’s CSO.

“The media as the fourth estate of the realm is an important pillar of any democracy. Any attempt to gag the press in whatever guise is an abridgment of the rights of the people and a direct assault on our hard earned democracy. We therefore totally condemn the action of the President’s CSO.

“He must realise that we are in a democracy and not military dictatorship. It is also revealing and shows the lack of synergy in the Villa that a reporter will be expelled without the knowledge or concurrence of the president’s adviser on media relations.”

Buhari Seeks To Borrow $5.851bn For Railway Projects

Pres. Buhari writes National Assembly, seeks approval to borrow $5.851bn for railway projects

President Muhammadu Buhari has written a letter to the National Assembly, requesting for approval to borrow $5.851 billion for the upgrade of various sections of the Nigerian railway.

In the letter written separately to Senate President Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the house of representatives Yakubu Dogara, President Buhari asked for speedy consideration of his request so that his administration can access the China-African fund provided in the 2016-2018 external borrowing plan.
According to President Buhari, the loan which is limited, is made open for all countries in the continent and it is award to any country on first come, first service basis. The letter in part reads

“I wish to refer to my earlier letter with respect to the above subject and to inform the distinguished senate that the China Exim bank has approved our request for a loan to execute the Lagos-Kano railway modernisation project, Lagos-Ibadan segment for a sum of $1.231 billion. The China government has also informed us that the approval of the Lagos-Kano railway modernisation project, Kano-Kaduna segment and coastal railway project, the Lagos-Calabar segment are imminent.

China Exim supported projects; Lagos-Kano modernisation projects, Lagos-Ibadan segment $1.231 billion; Lagos-Kano railway modernisation project, Kano-Kaduna segment $1.146 billion and coastal railway project, the Lagos-Calabar segment 3.474 billion, making a total of 5.851 billion. As you are aware the funds available under the China-African fund are limited and loan applications from all over Africa countries are funded based on first come, first serve and therefore there is an urgent need to sign these loans as soon as they are approved or we may loose out in the event that we delayed in signing the loan agreement.

These loans form part of the overall money for the rail strategy. We are in the process of completing the concession of the port Harcourt Maiduguri line to immediately link the eastern part of the nation. We fully intend to source further concessioning funding to ultimately upgrade this critical line to high speed standard gauge. These projects form the overall plan to resuscitate the rail transport across the nation and thereby drive inclusive growth”.

Davido & Ice Prince Delta Fight: What Really Happened

Over the weekend, social media went buzzing with news of a reported beef between Davido and Ice Prince at the Delta Alive concert organised by Quilox boss, Shina Peller.

While Davido and Ice Prince have declined to comment on the issue, LIB was able to get an exclusive chat with Shina Peller, the event organiser who narrated how it all went down.

According to him,

'Ok here's what really happened, my arrangement for the concert was to have a tour bus, so there was no time when anyone had a saloon car. It was a tour bus which everybody was in including myself, my artistes, Lil Kesh, CDQ and everyone just so we are all together to have fun but along the line i found out that Davido had some friends in Warri.'

'Davido was in the same bus with us from the airport to the hotel, he used the same bus from the hotel to Quest FM where we went for an interview before the show. It was at Quest FM his friends came to pick him with a white G-Wagon, I don't even know the owner of the G-Wagon. So he was in his friend's G-Wagon from the radio station to the event venue so it wasn't an issue at all'.'
He was also asked about the issue of performance hierarchy that we learnt got Ice Prince angry because he performed before Lil Kesh and he said, 'now let me shock you, my artiste 'Base One' even performed after Lil kesh, so there was no superiority or hierarchy involved, I just wanted it to be a random event flow.

The event even had two of my waiters at Quilox that sings I got them to perform at the show and we'll still do 3 more of the event before the year runs out'.

He also commented on the issue of both artiste leaving delta State airport in different lounges because of the beef, 'when we were coming back to Lagos, It was Ice Prince that got to be at the VIP lounge, myself, Davido, Lil Kesh and others where outside in a shed with just a standing fan. really it's all one family everything is resolved now.

The only thing that got Davido upset is the fact that he felt Ice Prince was being disrespectful to me not even to him because even Davido didn't complain about any of the logistics issue it was Ice Prince that complained a little that's all'.

‘Eze Goes to School’ Author, Onuorah Nzekwu is dead

The death has been announced of renowned writer and author of Eze Goes to School, Onuorah Nzekwu.

The literary doyen passed away at the age of 89, Friday night. The real cause of his death is still unknown at the moment.

Pa Nzekwu became popular for his book entitled Eze Goes to School, written in 1963.

While commiserating with his family over the incident, Abdulahi said the late writer would forever be remembered for his literary works, which preached about the importance of education.

“Yes, it is true but I can’t confirm what actually the real cause of his death was; but it is a big loss to the Nigerian literary community.

“We would miss him dearly and we pray God to grant the literary icon eternal rest in his bosom,” he told our reporter.

When asked on what ANA is doing to help the aged and struggling writers, Abdulahi said the association needed to take census of those writers alive so as to make the necessary moves.

“Well, ANA is doing its best but we still need to take census of those icons alive. We can do more of cooperative programmes for them. We might not have the money but we still need to know them.

“For instance, we have a large portion of land in Mpape, Abuja for the association, the government can come in and build houses for those literary icons,” he added.

Born February 19, 1928 in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, Nzekwu was a writer who explored the internal conflicts inherent in the relationship of the educated Igbo to traditional Igbo culture.

Nzekwu’s first novel, Wand of Noble Wood (1961), portrays in moving terms the futility of a Western pragmatic approach to the problems created by an African’s traditional religious beliefs.

In 1963 he published a children’s book, Eze Goes to School (written with Michael Crowder), and his third novel, Highlife for Lizards, appeared in 1965.

He had worked as a teacher, civil servant and journalist, also wrote Wand of Noble Wood, Blade Among the Boys and other fictional and non-fictional works.

He was also the pioneer general manager of News Agency of Nigeria.
