Arsenal legends slam Wenger

Arsenal legends lined up to blast Arsene Wenger after Wednesday night’s Champions League humiliation at the hands of Bayern Munich, talkSPORT reports.

The Gunners are were blown away 5-1 by the German champions in the first leg of the last 16 clash to surely end their hopes of reaching their quarter-finals for another year.

The defeat has increased calls from supporters for Wenger to end his 20-year reign, and a trio of ex-players – Lee Dixon, Martin Keown and Ian Wright –also turned on the Frenchman following the capitulation at the Allianz Arena.

“He just seems so low,” former full-back Dixon told ITV.

“I think he’s realising that with this team he’s getting no response from them. They’re not doing themselves justice or him.

“That is the first time where I’ve seen him where I’ve thought, ‘he thinks it’s time’. The fact that he hasn’t been able to get a response from the players in the last few weeks might be the final straw.”

Keown, who won three league titles under Wenger, suggested this was the nadir of the 67-year-old’s reign.

“It’s almost embarrassing – outclassed, outplayed,” Keown told BT Sport.

“This is his lowest point ever. Twenty years and Arsene must be considering his future now. Arsenal were bullied, weren’t they? Completely.”
