THE American government has donated about $160,000 to the Federal government to help reactivate the country’s neglected social institution, including halls of fame, museums and archival centres. Eddie-Ogbomah Foremost film maker, Chief Eddie Ugbomah, disclosed this in a statement he made available to E-Daily. This move, according the veteran film maker, will compliment Governor Akinwumi Ambode of Lagos State’s recent plans to acquire or launch movie/music halls of fame in the state. In the bid to promote tourism in Nigeria, Ugbomah cited how the French government is making about 40% of their incomes from the country’s tourist programmes such as Roland Gaross, Lawn Tennis, Monaco car race, Cannes film festival and Paris jazz festival. “The Cannes Film Festival was set up 66 years ago by two brothers, today it is the world calendar of the big film festival,” he said. Recall that the veteran film maker recently appealed to Governor Ambode to salvage the movie and music makers halls of fame which he legally registered since 2002. “As Lagos is gradually building up as a tourist centre in all aspects, the people’s governor, having read my appeal, promised to salvage the historical movie and music halls of fame that had been dismantled from the gallery due to rent issues and wrong location.”
